Psalm 107. It’s the first song of the fifth and final book of Psalms. A faith-filled psalm with fitting repetition and a forthright conclusion.
You can pretty much let the psalm speak for itself. Let the psalm speak to you. The psalm tells us to express thankfulness, express prayer, and express assurance.
Express prayer. “Then they cried to the Lord in their trouble, and he delivered them from their distress.” (Verses 6, 13, 19, 28)
Express thankfulness. “Let them give thanks to the Lord for his unfailing love and his wonderful deeds for mankind.” (Verses 8, 15, 21, and 31)
Express assurance. “Whoever is wise, let him attend to these things; let them consider the steadfast love of the Lord.” (Verse 43)
The psalm shows a host of troubles and trials. The psalm shows darkness, death, and despair. But the psalm shows it’s never too late. Never too late to cry out and pray. Never too late to express gratitude. Never too late to meditate and be assured of God’s steadfast love.
How can we be so sure? Because God delivers. He always delivers. Really? Yes! Because of God’s steadfast love. Because of God’s ‘hesed.’ That’ll be yet another Hebrew lesson. Let’s take that up tomorrow and hang around Psalm 107 for a while yet.
For today, be encouraged. Express yourself. “Let the redeemed of the Lord say so.” Express prayer, thankfulness, and assurance. Express it to anyone and everyone at any time and every time. Express it to our Lord. Our expression will lead to His intercession. That’s a promise. A promise God made to us. A promise God made to Zach.
Today’s Updates:
Zach made some progress on the ventilator today. They halved the amount of ventilator support he was receiving this morning and he’s been breathing well since. His chest tube continues to drain small amounts of fluid from around his lungs. Praise God for this progress!
The doctor had a meeting with Ed and Alice and discussed Zach’s hospital journey thus far, the plan for this week, and possibilities for the future. The doctor said that this week he hopes to wean Zach completely off all sedation. Once Zach is off all sedating and relaxing medications, they’ll get a better picture of his current neurological status. Today Zach was quite restless with the decreased sedation, but he did have a couple hours of rest. Please continue to pray for peace and healing for Zach.
“Let them thank the Lord for his steadfast love, for his wondrous works to the children of man!
Let them extol him in the congregation of the people, and praise him in the assembly of the elders.
He turns rivers into a desert, springs of water into thirsty ground, a fruitful land into a salty waste, because of the evil of its inhabitants.
He turns a desert into pools of water, a parched land into springs of water.
And there he lets the hungry dwell, and they establish a city to live in; they sow fields and plant vineyards and get a fruitful yield.
By his blessing they multiply greatly, and he does not let their livestock diminish.
When they are diminished and brought low through oppression, evil, and sorrow, he pours contempt on princes and makes them wander in trackless wastes; but he raises up the needy out of affliction and makes their families like flocks.
The upright see it and are glad, and all wickedness shuts its mouth.
Whoever is wise, let him attend to these things; let them consider the steadfast love of the Lord.”
