The theme for today is: Good.
‘Good’ is a dead word. Doesn’t mean much in speaking. Doesn’t mean much in writing. ‘Good’ is a stale, overused, meaningless, generic adjective. It fails to convey. It fails to describe. Not so with God.
God is good. Sounds underwhelming doesn’t it? Why describe God with a dead word? There are better words. God is exceptional. God is superb. God is outstanding. God is impressive. Those phrases seem to do a better job to describe someone worthy of praise. Not so with God.
Only God is worthy to be described as good. Only God is good. No one else is good. No one else does good. God is the standard of good. His motivations, intentions, and plans are to do what is right, just, fair, and ‘good.’
‘Good’ is God’s nature. ‘Good’ means God doesn’t do wrong. God is not unrighteous. He is not unholy. He is not dark. He is not unpleasant. He can only be good. He can only do good. He can only give us what is good for us.
He gave us a good creation. We messed it up. He gave us a good law. We messed that up too. But then He gave us ‘good’ news. He gave us the gospel. He gave us Jesus. God is good.
‘Good’ is not a dead word. ‘Good’ is a vibrant word. It’s a life-giving, life-saving, life-changing word. ‘Good’ is a good word. God is a good God. Zach is being cared for by our good God. That’s good enough for us. That’s good enough for Zach.
Today’s Updates:
Zach had his second swallowing assessment yesterday. While he did better than last time, he is still not able to clear his airway on command, so they’re hesitant to give him food or drink. For now, Zach can have spoonfuls of water by mouth, but will continue to get the rest of his nutrition and hydration through his PEG tube. Please pray that Zach will re-learn how to swallow reliably and clear his airway so that he will be able to eat and drink again.
Physiotherapy and occupational therapy want to focus on regaining strength in Zach’s muscles. They are trying to strengthen his trunk muscles so that he will be able to sit up on his own, and they want to work on strengthening his left shoulder to reverse some of the subluxation there. They also want to start some exercises to strengthen Zach’s legs. Pray that these efforts to regain Zach’s strength will be effective.
Zach is sometimes having trouble identifying objects or distinguishing between objects during his therapy sessions. The speech language pathologist says that this is common with brain injuries. Zach usually does a bit better identifying single words rather than pictures of objects. Please pray that Zach will be able to understand his environment more. Pray that he will be able to recognize the objects around him and progress in his neurological recovery.
Zach’s energy levels have been low over the past few days. He often dozes off during the day and has been less responsive in his therapies when he is tired. Please pray that Zach’s energy will increase. Pray that God will give him the energy and endurance he needs for his various treatments. Pray also that God will bless his treatments and that he will heal Zach’s brain. Pray that Zach will have a restful and refreshing Lord’s Day tomorrow so that he will be ready for another week of treatments.
“The Lord is good to those whose hope is in him, to the one who seeks him; it is good to wait quietly for the salvation of the Lord.”
(Lamentations 3:25-26)
Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever. Cry out, “Save us, God our Savior; gather us and deliver us from the nations, that we may give thanks to your holy name, and glory in your praise.” Praise be to the Lord, the God of Israel, from everlasting to everlasting. Then all the people said “Amen” and “Praise the Lord.”
(1 Chronicles 16:34-36)
