Medical Update:
Today, Zach had another setback. He was very restless and agitated, and when they tried to reposition him this afternoon, his left chest tube came out. They had to sedate Zach and put him back on the ventilator with some blood pressure support in order to stabilize him. The doctor said that re-inserting Zach’s chest tube will be tricky, so they consulted the thoracic surgery team to come by and give their assessment tomorrow after they perform another chest x-ray in the morning. The thoracic team will decide whether they can insert Zach’s chest tube in his room, or if he will need to go to the operating room. Right now, Zach is off of sedation again and back on the trach mask to lower his risk of developing another pneumothorax (collection of air around the lung). Discussions about Zach’s transfer will be delayed until they can resolve the issue of his left chest tube.
Please pray that Zach may recover from this setback quickly. Please pray also that he may have a restful night tonight after his difficult day. Pray for guidance for the doctors and that his left chest tube can be put back in without any problems soon. Please also ask that God will allow Zach to be transferred to a Calgary hospital soon. We know that this part of Zach’s journey is also a part of God’s good plan.
