The theme for today is seeking.

Psalm 25. A supplication psalm. A sincere psalm. A seeking psalm. David begs and pleads to God (supplication). He hopes only in God (sincere). And turns only to God (seeking).

David is beside himself. He’s suffering in every way imaginable. Suffering from painful guilt, paralyzing fear, and persistent loneliness.

Painful guilt. David mentions his sins repeatedly, even the sins of his youth. He pleads with God to forget them, pardon them, and forgive them.

Paralyzing fear. David has enemies everywhere. They seem to be gaining advantage over him. They’re violent. They hate him. He feels trapped.

Persistent loneliness. David’s troubles are getting worse, not better. He’s overwhelmed with afflictions, troubles, anguish, distress, and fear. And he’s on his own. At least he feels like he’s on his own.

David is beside himself. We know the feeling. And we often imagine how Zach must be feeling. That’s why we read this psalm to Zach this morning. By God’s grace, we did so in a spirit of supplication, sincerity, and seeking. We did so because the psalm points us to the Who. God is good, upright, forgiving, near, gracious, and powerful. And we can seek Him. 24-7.

Psalm 25. Seeking. David was always seeking. And so will we. And this is the perfect psalm to do so. We can seek God earnestly and repeatedly. We know He’s near. We can ask him for instruction. We must be teachable. We can ask him for forgiveness. Our trust is weak. We can ask him for guidance. We’re feeling lost at times. We can ask him for protection. We feel helpless at times. We can ask him for mercy. He tells us to; he’s compassionate.

That’s a lot to ask. But not too much to ask. We will keep asking. We will keep seeking.

Today’s Updates:

Zach started off this morning with a blood transfusion because of a low blood count (hemoglobin). He tolerated the blood well and his hemoglobin improved. The doctors didn’t point to any specific cause of Zach’s low hemoglobin, but they were unconcerned as it is normal for ICU patients to require blood transfusions during their stay.

Zach’s breathing trial went better today than yesterday, but they did have to reconnect him to the ventilator after 90 minutes. Zach’s chest tubes are also looking better, but will be staying in until Zach is safely off the ventilator. We’re glad to see these small improvements and we pray that Zach’s lungs will continue to improve.

Zach was fairly active today but still doesn’t appear aware or responsive. We will continue our fervent prayers for Zach’s brain to heal. Please also continue to pray with us for patience and peace as we lean on the Lord for strength in this time of waiting.

”Show me your ways, Lord, teach me your paths. Guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are God my Savior, and my hope is in you all day long.“ (Psalm 25‬:‭4‬-‭5‬)

”Turn to me and be gracious to me, for I am lonely and afflicted. Relieve the troubles of my heart and free me from my anguish.“ (Psalm‬ ‭25‬:‭16‬-‭17‬)
