Zach is now a stable ICU patient. He no longer needs treatment to support blood pressure. This is good news as they don’t need to continuously monitor his blood pressure anymore. They’ll keep him mildly sedated and keep decreasing sedation slowly so as not to shock him. He’s slowly responding more but still sleeping.
His heart rate is much improved, but still higher than his normal due to fighting the infection. He’s initiating his own breaths, and the ventilator is helping him less every day, but they are going slow, and he will likely be on the ventilator until at least next week. There’s a dead space in his right lung which will likely require a prolonged stay in the hospital and on ventilator longer. However, the doctors say he is quite young and “robust” so they’re optimistic.
He has a light pulse on his wrist and ankles, but not his on right hand and feet. There is still a very real possibility of losing his right hand and both feet.
Zach seems to be responding well to his tube feed, so they are slowly increasing the amount that he receives. His kidneys continue to improve.
Megan and Melannie joined Zach to livestream the Good Friday service in his hospital room. Many people at church expressed their concern and prayers for Zach and the family. We are incredibly thankful for the amazing support from our church community, family, and friends.
“You have searched me, Lord, and you know me. You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar. You discern my going out and my lying down; you are familiar with all my ways … Where can I go from your Spirit?” (Psalm 139: 1-3, 7).
