The theme for today is hoping.

Today we received some updates that left us with a sense of cautious optimism. Be hopeful! But we also received an update that left us devastated and heartbroken. Be hopeful!

Hope. It’s a small word. And depending on where your hope comes from, it’s either a weak word or a powerful word.

Hope is either superficial or supernatural. Superficial hope comes from fallible man. Supernatural hope comes from an infallible God. Superficial hope is unreliable, wishful, uncertain, elusive, and disappointing. Supernatural hope is sure, certain, living, eternal, and powerful. Superficial hope is finger-crossing…for luck. Supernatural hope is finger-folding…in prayer.

True hope is a discipline to rest in God. True hope is a determination to believe in God. True hope directs us beyond this life. True hope longs for an end to suffering. True hope longs for Heaven. True hope points to glory. True hope comforts, strengthens, and restores. True hope longs for the finish line of the race that God has marked out for us. True hope is a miracle!

That’s why we’re running for Zach. That’s why we’re running with Zach. He’ll keep running. We’ll keep running. Fixing our eyes on Hope. Fixing our eyes on Jesus.

Today’s Updates:

As you’ve read above, Zach had some optimistic news and some difficult news today. The good news is that parts of Zach’s fingers are feeling warmer, so the doctors are cautiously optimistic that they may be able to preserve more of his hand, perhaps up to his first set of knuckles on some fingers. We give thanks that God is working his healing and hearing our prayers.

The difficult news is that the doctors have found a possible reason why Zach is not waking up yet. An MRI of Zach’s brain shows small areas all over the brain that aren’t receiving oxygen (diffuse hypoxia) as well as some tiny areas of bleeding (microbleeds). This opens up a possible reality that Zach may not wake up. This is scary news but we are putting our trust in our Lord who has delivered us thus far an will continue to carry us. Please pray with us for Zach, that his brain may heal and that he may wake up soon.

On days like these, we are comforted in our Lord’s providence over everything. God loves us, he loves Zach, and God is always near. Please pray urgently with us to our gracious God.

“Those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary; they will walk and not be faint” (Isaiah 40:31).

“Be strong and take heart, all you who hope in the Lord.” (Psalm 31:24)

“Why, my soul, are you downcast? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Saviour, and my God.” (Psalm 42:5)
