The theme for today is timing. God’s timing.

As you’ll read below, Zach had some setbacks today. This was hard to accept. A setback is just that. It sets you back. Not forward but back. We want Zach to progress forwards. Not backwards. Makes sense, doesn’t it?

Tim Keller said, “God’s sense of timing will always confound ours. His grace rarely operates according to our schedule.”

Schedule. Timing. That’s what we’re struggling with. We want things done ‘right on schedule.’ Timing is everything.

Time is not on our side. But God is. Time is in His hands. It’s His schedule that matters. It’s His timing that matters. And His timing is perfectly impeccable. God has ordained every second of our lives, of Zach’s life, to be worked out for our good and for His glory. We can rest knowing our time, Zach’s time, is in His hands. His schedule. His timing. We’re OK with that.

Today’s Updates:

Today feels like another “one step forward, two steps back” kind of day. They decreased Zach’s sedation this morning but Zach is still not waking up. He doesn’t respond to voices or touch, but he does tense his muscles when he is stressed. Zach’s eyes have been wide open and they look full of fear. We sat beside him all day and reminded him that he is safe and that God is watching over him. Please pray for the peace of God to rest on Zach.

Another concern the doctors have is that Zach may have another infection in addition to the flu and strep. His infection markers (white blood cells) are increasing despite the antibiotics. They took some more samples on him today to check for additional infection. They also removed one of his lines to remove any potential source of infection.

His lungs continue to improve each day. He is now receiving minimal assistance from the ventilator, but they won’t remove his breathing tube until he regains consciousness. Another reason to continue praying for Zach to wake up and feel calm in his situation.

Zach’s right hand continues to worsen, his fingers appear black and shrivelled. They are still applying the povidone to prevent any infection on the right hand and both feet.

That’s all the updates for today! Please pray for Zach as he continues to battle this illness. Please pray especially that Zach will calmly wake up soon. Thank you for your encouragement and support as we walk this road with Zach.

“But I trust in you, Lord; I say, ‘You are my God.’ My times are in your hands.” (Psalm 31:14-15a).
