The theme for today is clinging.
We cling when we’re afraid. We cling when we’re anxious. We cling when we’re desperate. We just need something, someone, anything, anyone to cling on to.
But what to cling on to? If you cling on to a rope, something’s got to give. You. Or the rope. If you cling on to a branch, something’s gotta give. You. Or the branch. If you cling on to a cliff, something’s gotta give. You. Or the rocks.
We were sitting with Zach this morning. Playing songs. Praying. Wondering what to read. Providentially, our Calgary Pastor Keith Davis checked in, sent encouraging words, and shared Psalm 63:1-8. Verse 8 stood out: My soul clings to you; your right hand upholds me.
If you cling to God’s right hand, something’s gotta give. You. Not God. God’s right hand is THE pinnacle of strength. We are literally clinging to God’s right hand right now. And so is Zach, even though he might not know it.
So, we will cling. We will cling on tight. We’ll cling in faith. We’ll cling in fear. We’ll cling in tears. We will cling to the Rock. We will cling to His hand. We will cling together.
Today’s Update:
Zach had a calm day today, which we are thankful for! He is slowly waking up but not completely alert yet. His eyes open and close, but he doesn’t respond to anything he sees. He opened his eyes wider when Megan told him about her day. He had some shaking episodes which is a part of the waking up process after being sedated for so long. The nurses continue to give him medication to keep him calm and comfortable.
Zach still has the chest tube in from yesterday and the doctors say his lungs look better compared to when he came in. We are happy to see Zach’s ventilator settings slowly going down as a result of his improving condition.
The vascular surgeons are continuing to follow Zach’s right hand and feet. There is still nothing to do. The doctors said fingers and toes will likely fall off if his condition stays the same, but this would not be a painful process as he would have no feeling in those areas. Zach was on the highest doses of blood pressure support to keep him alive when he first came to ICU, and losing part or all of his right hand and both feet is the result of that. Please continue to pray with us for healing and for peace to accept whatever the Lord has planned.
Thank you all for your continued prayers and encouragement, we feel your support, whether you are near or far.
My soul clings to you; your right hand upholds me. (Psalm 63:8)
