running4zach

The theme for today is restlessness.

Zach is restless. Restless and confused. Restless and anxious. Restless and seemingly aware. Restless in pain. Restless and tense.

He flails his arms. He flails his legs. He calms down. And then he does it again. Waking, waking, waking. Waking up is a process. A restless process.

His eyes. His beautiful blue eyes! Now we know why MayGee fell in love with him! Those eyes open wide and it seems like they go to whoever is speaking, whoever is praying, whoever is singing, whoever is laughing, and whoever is crying.

Zach is restless. And so are we. Zach is weary. And so are we. We’ll go to Jesus. Because he invited us to.

Today’s Update:

It felt like Zach lost a bit of progress today. Zach has been off sedation since Sunday, but he had to be sedated again today because he was so restless. He wasn’t fully awake when he was restless, but his heart and breathing rates were high and he was swinging around his arms and legs. Please pray with us that Zach will feel calmer when they take him off sedation next time. Please also pray for patience for us as we wait to see Zach fully awake.

Zach’s lungs continue to improve with the antibiotics and the chest tube. A reason to praise God for his continued healing!

The nurses have started putting povidone (iodine) on Zach’s right hand and feet to prevent infection. They also put soft boots on his feet so he doesn’t hurt himself when he moves his legs around.

We acknowledge that recovery is not a linear progress, but has its ups and downs. We feel privileged to be with Zach during good times and bad times. Thank you for your continued prayers.

Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. (Matthew 11:28)

When I am afraid, I put my trust in you. In God, whose word I praise— in God I trust and am not afraid. What can mere mortals do to me? (Psalms‬ ‭56‬:‭ 3-4)
