running4zach

The last few days have been packed with numerous phone calls, discussions, and meetings with medical personnel. As a result, plans are underway to transport Zach to Calgary. This morning, the doctor reminded us again of the long road ahead. Zach is in a marathon. And so, we’re grateful once again that family connections in Ontario have launched another GiveSendGo campaign. Please go to Running for Zach Marathon Edition if you wish to support this cause. Thank you all so much again for your generosity, encouragement, and prayers!

Please pray for Zach, Megan, and the family as we adjust to the impending changing circumstances and the long road ahead.

Calgary. Home for Zach. Close to Zach’s beloved mountains. God’s mountains. “The mountain peaks belong to him” (Psalm 95:4). Our God who created mountains can move mountains. So, we continue to pray for miraculous healing for Zach. Please pray that we, and Zach, keep running the race fixing our eyes on Jesus.

We’re being blessed with lots of out-of-town visitors this week. I’ll take a break from the Psalms and share some gems that have been sent to us as encouragement. Here’s one that I’ve read countless times. Hits me every time. Speaks to me every time. God. No mistakes.

He Maketh No Mistake

My Father’s way may twist and turn,

My heart may throb and ache,

But in my soul I’m glad I know,

He maketh no mistake.

My cherished plans may go astray,

My hopes may fade away.

But still I’ll trust my Lord to lead

For He doth know the way.

Though night be dark and it may seem

That day will never break;

I’ll pin my faith, my all in Him,

He maketh no mistake.

There’s so much now I cannot see,

My eyesight’s far too dim;

But come what may, I’ll simply trust

And leave it all to Him.

For by and by the mist will lift

And plain it all He’ll make,

Through all the way, though dark to me

He made not one mistake.

Today’s Updates:

Our new doctor for the week arrived from Ontario! The new doc made some more medication adjustments today. They’re still figuring out the cause of Zach’s restlessness how to help him relax.

The doctor today reiterated that the biggest concern is Zach’s brain. The doctor said it will take months to tell how much of the brain is permanently damaged. Please pray for full healing of Zach’s brain during this uncertain time, trusting in our God to heal that which has been hurt.

The physiotherapist came by again today and put Zach’s bed in a sitting position to increase his core strength. Zach did pretty well except that he struggled to hold up his head. They hope to keep exercising him like this in small stretches, as increasing Zach’s mobility will also help his brain. The doctor said that one day in the ICU often means one week in rehab later to strengthen the body, so this will also be a long journey for Zach.

We are currently working on transferring Zach from Winnipeg to Calgary to stay in the Foothills Hospital ICU. It is unsure right now how soon he’ll be transferred, but the plan is in motion. It is possible that he will be transferred before his feet are amputated, and if so they will do the amputation later at Foothills. Please pray for wisdom for us and peace for Zach with this upcoming transfer. Thank you your continued prayers for Zach’s recovery, we know our God hears and delights in our prayers.

You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you.” (Isaiah‬ ‭26‬:‭3‬)
